             Medical scribes are people who record all contacts between doctors and patients during the course of treatment. One of the duties of this position is to enter all patient written records into a database so that the attending physician can concentrate on providing care. The scribe completes all the paperwork concurrently.

In order to work as a medical scribe, one should possess the following fundamental abilities:

  • The medical scribe must be able to jot down the information gathered while also maintaining good listening skills during the course of the procedure.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary because all the information must be typed into a computer and encoded.
  • Knowledge of how to use a computer and the ability to type are also necessary, as is the ability to encode the patient information.
  • EMR software proficiency is necessary because the doctor will use it to keep track of each patient's records. This includes any electronic medical recording or electronic health recording software.
